After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Mark Derryberry, owner and producer recently closed his commercial tracking studio and moved into his home project studio. Wanting to branch out into consulting, he is helping many companies and home studio owners with the new production tools. Musicians, singers, songwriters, composers, voice talent, and filmmakers have access to modern recording studios in a box, along with a giant learning curve.

This has created a need for qualified sound and recording consultants to assist in training and set-up, providing a resource for anyone wanting to get the best quality and most efficent use of their gear.

With over 30 years in the audio and music production industries, Mark has the experience and the confidence to produce the client's vision. From simple consulting to full scale productions, both live or recorded, Mark can provide the expertise needed.

A musical creative life starting in the early 60's. He started playing the violin in 3rd grade and soon picked up the guitar. In high school he picked up electric and acoustic bass. After 8 years as a professional musician, he had the opportunity to mix sound for a band and was hooked.

While working as a live sound engineer, he went into a home studio with a band and realized the studio is the place to be. Immediately after the band left the studio Mark asked the owners, Ken and Shirley Kenneally, if he could apprentice. They said yes and he started reading every book and magazine article he could get his hands on, and recording during his spare time.

After some years of live sound and recording, Mark was able to quit live sound and just record full-time. Free-Realin' was a great studio to learn in with a great mentor Ken Kenneally, whose studio wisdom and great love for musicians taught Mark to record from the heart. Ken said, "Any recording is only as good as the song and the performance".

That is the basis of Mark's philosophy of recording, helping the musician do their very best. His helpful and caring attitude makes everyone instantly relax and his encouragement has conquered many frustrating moments. He has helped many Denver area bands, musicians, and talent to become great recording Artists.

Mark really learned to work fast and efficient, free-lance engineering in some of Denver's Best studio's. Working with many great producers in the 90's such as Jeff Glixman (ELO, Kansas), Jeff Workman (U2, Toto), Dik Darnell (Otis Redding, Brian Savage, Kenny Passarelli) and as a sound designer for films, audiobooks, and video games.

At the end of the decade Mark's interest in sound design went into the theatre. He designed the sound and ran the theatre sound for all the musicals at the Arvada Performing Arts Center for 4 years, all the while recording at FanFare, Coupe Studio's, FTM, Kerr-Macy, and Colorado Sound.

His love for recording and wanting to help young engineers caused Mark, with the help of his wife Debbie to build Derryberry Audio in 2000. Opening in May of 2001, Derryberry Audio became Denver's first totally digital studio. 10 years of producing hundreds of projects from movie soundtracks to pop CD's. Now, digital studios are everywhere. But, you can't beat the confidence and ease of production 30 years experience brings to the project.

Today, Mark loves recording and consulting others, to record the sound and the HEART.
